GLENN ROBERT MELTON

 

OBJECTIVE

 

To further my knowledge and engineering capability within the Solar Industry. To engineer solutions that no one else has though of and bring them to the market in a cost effective manner. To manufacture new technology and work to deliver customer focused solutions.

 

PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

 

EPC - WILLIAMSDALE SOLAR FARM  - 2016/2017

EPC to successfully complete the 11.87MW Williamsdale Solar Farm (ACT), with 70 acres of solar panels and over 120 employees ($37.1m AUD Project - 5th largest Solar Farm  in Australia at the time).

Involved in design work, responsible for all EPC activities, managed the installation and commissioning of 35,000 solar on single-axis tracking machines. Responsible for all workers and contractors and budgets.

 

EPC - Williamsdale Solar Farm (2016): Managed all aspects of the poject including

 

Background:

Site was a difficult site in the hills between Cooma and Canberra. Granite was 10 to 50 cm under the surface and the hills had slopes of 15 degrees plus. The substation was situated on a hill that had to have excavations 3 to 4 m down into the granite. I was responsible for all Approvals with the Canberra Government from environmental approvals and EPA to layouts and planning issues. All work on site went through my company except sub-station construction. I understood and completed all aspects of a large scale solar installation in a difficulat environment working to budgets.

 

The following are some of the responsibilities on Site: 

1.     Creation of all documents involved in planning such as fire and emergency, environmental, roads and traffic. 

2.     Designing and implementation of all aspects of OH and S for a solar farm. Involved with Audits and safety on-site.

3.     Preparation of budgets and work with plans (many aspects not ready for quoting).

4.     Hiring of all staff and contractors on the solar farm and working with recruitment firms to supply labourers. Over 120 staff and contractors at its peak.

5.     Supervisor responsible for all Civil works including roads, fences, drainage, and foundations. Site roads and fences were greater than 2.5km.

6.     Developing engineering works for roads, drainage and foundations.

7.     Preparations of foundations for transformers, Central inverters and string inverters.

8.     Site contained 2 x 35 tonne, 2 x 20 tonne and 3 small excavators plus 5 tele-handlers plus 3 forklifts.

9.     Environmental Protection planning and dealing with the EPA.

10.   Implemented security policies and hire of security staff.

11.   Purchase and implementation of drilling and Piling equipment and utilisation of GPS. Granite 10 to 50cm under ground and site was covered in hills. 6500 holes drilled and piled with a tolerance of 10mm on hills and in 3 months of record rain.

12.   Setup and running of GPS equipment and working from CAD plans.

13.   Responsible for purchase and hiring of all equipment and tools.

14.   Supply of key construction contractors and supervisors.

15.   Responsible for setting key target dates for construction, keeping to tight time frames and involvement in reporting and management meetings.

16.   Responsible for individual training of assembly supervisors.

17.   Responsible for dealing with freight agents, organising Docks, unloading and site delivery with strict OH and S policies.

18.   The removal and storage of 158 large gum trees that had to be stored with root and branch structures for the Canberra Government. These were to be used in fish habitats and were part of the planning.

19.   Setting up of stores and implementation of spares on-site.

20.   Construction of Docks for unloading – 124 forty foot containers loaded with steel, solar panels and inverters.

21.   Site meetings with supervisors of assembly teams.

22.   Site clean up in high wind area.

23.   Dealing with Rain – 3 record months of rain and keeping a project on a tight time frame.

24.   Organisation of under-boring and site trenching. Multi-layer trenching.

25.   Assembly of single axis tracking systems and panel assembly.

26.   Working with staff in a team environment to ensure that site safety and efficiency is achieved.

27.   Involvement in cost minimisation.

28.   Dealing with issues to do with labourers.

29.   Controlling worker flow around a large 70 acre site.

30.   Testing and Commissioning of tracking systems.

31.   Testing and Commission of Trackers.

32.   Hiring of electrical contractors, involving high voltage work. Setup of SCADA controls. 

33.   Underboring of main road and dealing with traffic issues.

34.   Creation of ground study and implementation into the project.

35.   Perform civils for sub-station.

36.   Running of DC Cables and cable tying.

37.   Dealing with Unions.

38.   Electrical testing and Commissioning.

39.   Plant Commissioning and Final Testing.

40.   PAC and Final Hand-over.

DIRECTOR - ECO FOR LIFE – 2010 - CURRENT

  • Manufactured and installed $25M worth of solar tracking equipment, with a total of 145,000 solar panels installed.

  • Design, Manufacture and Installaiton of Dual Axis Tracking and installation on 250+ Separate Sites.

  • Patented Tracking System.

 

DIRECTOR - PPA DIRECT - CURRENT

  • Installed 3.5MW Solar systems under Power Purchase Agreements.

  • Design, Manufacture and Installation of Car Park Mounts.

 

PPA Direct: (and other Solar related companies – Greenway Investments, PPA Solar, PPA Electrical …)

 

Background: 

PPA Direct was born out of the solar installations that were achieved at Melton Contracting. PPA Direct was one of the first companies to begin PPA’s in Australian and gained access to some of the largest companies in Australia but found a nieche market in small scale STC products.

 

Further Information:

1.     Modelling of solar systems for different situations and using software. Requesting interval data and inporting into software and modelling with solar to determine customer savings and profit margins.

2.     Travelling Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane meeting with financial institutions and large corporations.

3.     Complete the legal work for Power Purchase Agreements including licencing.

4.     Dealing with Caeats and PPSR Registration.

5.     Setup Agents around country to sell on behalf of PPA Direct.

6.     Organise installations around Australia. Work completed across multiple states to budgets.

7.     Setup retailer to run billing system for PPA Direct. All invoices to customer for power consumption came from a licenced retailer and could back up original modelling and savings to the customer.

8.     Setup monitoring and maintenance system.

9.     Installations so far under PPA’s exceed 3.5MW.

10.   Design and engineer Car Park Mounts.

11.   Design and engineer fixed, single axis and dual axis mounts (with Patents).

12.   Purchase equipment directly from China and Korea.

13.   Connections for purchase of Australian Approved Electrical Components.

14.   Joint Venture with Chinese at Barham – Design, install, part owner, OandM (1MW).

15.   Borrow funds from Chinese, Australian, UK and German Sources.

OWNER ALBURY COMPUTERS

  • Owner Albury Computers – 17 years with up to 30 employees

  • Agent for Honeywell Albury, Fujitsu, Getronnics – repairs of electronics and industrial

equipment. Repairs of ATM’s, large format printers, band printers etc.

  • Sales of Satellite Internet under Government Grant –– 17,000 signups – direct marketing Australia Wide.

  • Conttacts included Commonweath Bank, ANZ Bank. Westpac Bank, St Geroge Bank, Department of Community Services etc…

  • HP Server Sales

  • NEC direct purchase

  • CISCO 

  • Voip Company with direct relationship with Optus

 

Albury Computers:

 

Background:

Albury Computers was the largest computer retailer between Sydney and Melbourne for a period of time. Direct relationships with companies such as NEC and HP. Apart from this they had large service contracts on all aspects of banking infrastructure and government departments. Albury Computers employed suitable qualified Server Technicians as well as electrical contractors.

 

Further Background:

1.     Built up business to be the largest HP Server Dealer outside a capital city.

2.     Direct Dealership with NEC Japan and purchased from Korean Factories.

3.     Business was in operation from XT Computers to sale of business 19 years ago.

4.     Main st locations with full retail experience.

5.     Direct importing from China for consumables and Computing Capabilities.

6.     Over 35 employees at maximum.

7.     Sales of Satellite Broadband Australia wide – door to door sales through Country Areas. Over 17,000 sign ups exceeding Telstra. Door knocking acros QLD, SA, Tas, VIC and NSW. 15 Hyundais with GPS tracking and Ford F250 with custom trailer for sales. We were able to monitor our door to door sales and get the most out of our teams. We could bring up data on where the most sales were achieved, what time and days best for sales and where good leads were generated to go back and close. Sales spanned 3 years. 16 girls running a tele-marketing sales team.

8.     Completed over 120 field days and shows one year from QLD to Tas.

9.     Ran Telemarketing Service – 16 ladies employed and setup with auto dialing solftware which retrieved phone numbers from Whitepages and were able to correspond these to locations outside urban areas.

10.   Agent for companies such as Honeywell, Getronnics, ITS and Fujitsu. (Tattslotto, Eftpos, Acer, Del etc...)

11.   Repairs to major bank computer systems (ANZ, CBA, NAB, St George etc...) and 2500 x ATM’s. 

12.   Repairs to computers for government departments. 

13.   Setup of servers through local businesses such as Signs by Knight, Federation Clinic and Mountain H2O. 

14.   Server and Computer Repairs.

ELECTRONICS CONTRACTOR

  • Electronic Repairs to Equipment South Corp Packaging / ANI Bradken / Newsprint mills. 

  • Repairs to motor drives and computers at Board Level.

  • Repairs to Process Lines, Milling Machines, Furnices and other system boards.

  • Calibration 

  • Manufacture and Installation of Dual Axis Tracking Systems.

 

Electronics Contractor: (Melton Contracting)

 

Background:

Melton Contracting was created while I worked for Australian Defence Industries. I was employed for 8 hours per week, went full time in 2 weeks and contract in 6 months. I have substantial experience in Electroniics repairs and maintenance and dealing with the pressures of time when dealing with companies such as ANI Bradken and Australian Newsprint Mills. Melton Contracting morphed into a solar installation company and at one stage (early in Australias solar industry) had installed over 2.5% of Australias Solar Capacity.

 

Further Information:

1.     Contractor Australian Defence Industries for over 5 years repairing HP and CA Mainframes at Board Level. Repairs to gun ranges (electronics and mechanical) at bases including Kapooka, Greenbank and and overseas ranges by board repairs.

2.     Calibration work for large factories such as ADI, Ion Transmissions, ADI Benalla, Southcorp Packaging, and ANI Bradken. 

3.     Repairs to process lines at at large business such as ANI Bradken, Southcorp Packaging, ADI Benalla, Ion Transmissions, and Carter Holt Harvey. Electronic boards repaired without wiring diagrams including Motor Drives and process line boards. 

4.     Repairs to CNC Machines.

5.     Repairs to early wire wrapped IBM ATMs and later responsible for the repairs of 2500 ATMS between Canberra and Melbourne.

6.     Design, Manufacture and Installation of Dual Axis Tracking systems under NSW and QLD Fit. 267 tracking systems installed in total with average cost of $90K+. Also responsible for maintenance and repairs of the units. Installations were on farms and all work from metering to ground cables. This $25m+ project was conceptualized, financed, sales achieved and installed by Melton Contracting. Manufacture of the tracker steel work was contracted out but assembly, electrical and installation was achieved by Melton Contracting.

7.     Joint ventures of 1MW plus with Chinese company Lightway.

8.     Sales and installation of thousands of Commercial Roof and Ground Mount installations. Including owning over 200 plus 10KW installaitons under the NSW 60c/kWh FIT.

AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE INDUSTRIES

  • Contractor for 5 years repairing circuit boards and Electronic Design work for Gun Range Equipment.

  • Repairs tp Mainframe Computer Systems at Board Level.

  • On-site testing of gun-ranges and live firing.
